The Special Exams offer students a chance to prove their abilities, but the stakes are high. While it's a good opportunity to show their worth, one wrong move could lead to expulsion. Students must stay on their toes to avoid failure and the consequences that come with it.In Classroom of the Elite, students get expelled for all kinds of reasons - failing exams, failing special tests, or getting into fights. So far, 5 students have been expelled, but 3 others got super lucky and were saved by their classmates and leaders.

Class Poll exam, every student was given 3 praise and 3 criticism votes. They can cast their
votes on anyone from their school year.

Sakayanagi expelled because he supporting Katsuragi not her. At the same time Katsuragi is one of the skilled students in Class 1-A expelling him would be a waste.
Sakayanagi's plan was not just about expelling an untalented student; she wanted to demonstrate how easily a student could get left behind if they didn't support her. By choosing to expel Totsuka Yahiko, Sakayanagi showed her classmates she was the one in control.

Ishizaki and Ibuki both asked Ayanokoji to help save Ryuen from getting expelled. At that time Ayanokoji also don't liked Ryuen get expelled. So he got an opportunity to resolve that issue. Which is making a deal between Ichinose and Ishizaki and Ibuki.
The plan was use Ryuen's private points to purchase praise votes from Ichinose's class. So Ryuen get 40 praise votes from Ichinose's class for 4 million private points. Since they saving Ryuen they had to had to expel someone else in his place. Ibuki named Manabe because she didn't like her. Ayanokoji also had the same idea.
This ultimately led to Manabe Shiho being expelled from Ryuen's with most Criticism votes.

Yamauchi Haruki was betrayed by Arisu Sakayanagi. She manipulated Yamauchi
into conspiring against Ayanokoji, promising him praise votes from her class
in return.
Sakayanagi acted like she was interested in Yamauchi. She promised Yamauchi that she would give him 20 praise votes from her class if he helped her expel Ayanokoji.
Yamauchi asked Kushida for help to convince their classmates to put their criticism vote on Ayanokoji. However, Kei got to know about some of her classmates planning to expel him and informed Ayanokoji. Then he told Horikita to expose Yamauchi's plot in front of the whole class.
This exposed Yamauchi's betrayal and led to him being expelled with the most criticism votes in Horikita's Class AKA Class 1-C. Yamauchi's downfall was a result of his gullibility and trust in Sakayanagi, who had been playing him all along.
Unanimous Vote Special Exam (Second Year)
The
Unanimous Vote Special Exam
is a simple test that contains 5 questions. In this exam, every student from
the class has to anonymously choose one choice from a multiple-choice
question. But the catch is all student's answers have to match.
Even if one student's answer is different the same question will repeat until they make the same decision. Each class was given 5 hours to finish the exam if they didn’t each class would lose 300 class points.

In the Unanimous, students faced a new challenge: unanimously agreeing on a
choice to pass. In the last question of the exam they had to choose to expel
someone to class points or don't expel someone. Initially, everyone opposed
and didn't want to expel anyone. But Kushida secretly voted favouring of
expelling someone.
As time passed, everyone understand they have to expel someone because that one person voting against never going to change their choice. They will runout of time if they keep doing nothing. So everyone changed their minds and ultimately decided to vote out someone. Ayanokoji spoke out and revealed Kushida is the one secretly voting against them.
Ayanokoji reasoned that Kushida would be expelled from the class. However, Horikita wanted to keep Kushida, because she is very useful and had potential.
Then Ayanokoji proposed expel someone with lowest OAA rank (new type of academic ranking system introduced in starting of second year) in the class. Which was Sakura Airi as that time. In the end, everyone voted for expelling Sakura.
Breaking Rules
In Advance Nurturing School lots of things other than failing a special exam leads to expulsion. Some of them were involved in violence, cheating in exams, failing an exam, etc.
Takuya Yagami
Yagami was one of the white room students sent to Advance Nurturing School for the mission of expelling Ayanokoji. He was enrolled in class 1-B while Ayanokoji was in 2nd year. While he tried to expel Ayanokoji, his plan failed, and during the uninhabited island exam, he injured 2 students. This leads to his expulsion.

Sudo from Horikita's class AKA class 1-D was very immature in the beginning
and tended to get angry easily. Since he was not blessed with academic
abilities he has poor grades in every subject. Which resulted in failing the
first mid-term exam of their first year.
He almost got expelled. But Ayanokoji and Horikita helped him by buying 1 test point for 100,000 private points from their homeroom teacher Chabashira.
Akane Tachibana (Class 3-A)

Tachibana was from Manabu's class AKA class 3-A. She also the secretary of
the student council of Advance Nurturing High School.
During the Mixed Training Camp Special Exam Nagumo challenged Manabu
Horikita for see who is superior. Manabu accepted his challenge on one
condition which is Nagumo won’t involve other people in their business.
In the end, Nagumo broke his promise and targeted Tachibana, and got her almost expelled. But Manabu paid 20 million points and saved her.

During the Class Poll exam to avoid anyone from expelling Inchinose's class AKA class 1-B populated a strategy as select one person and cast all their criticism votes on that person. Then pay 20 million points to save that person. The only issue is they only had 16 million private points after accumulating all students private points from their class.
Since they need more than 4 million private points to save everyone Ichinose asked Nagumo for help. But Nagumo proposed the condition to date him for giving her 4 million private points. She almost going to accept his deal in desperation of saving everyone.
At that time Ayanokoji contacted her and made proposed the deal with Ishizaki and Ibuki from Class 1-D. At the end of the Class Poll exam, Ryuji Kanzaki was expelled from Class 1-B. But Ichinose saved him by paying 20 million private points.
